On the 24th June 2004, the Gorsedd of Cor Gawr hosted a BBC poetry programme called Rites of Passage, presented by the poet Ian McMillan, the “Bard of Barnsley”.  Here is a recording of that programme, where a real sense of the Gorsedd can be felt. Some beautiful poetry, some wonderful awens, and some lovely memories.

Midsummer gathering

Stonehenge, 24th June 2009
The air is still cool, the sky the deepest blue tinged with red to the east, as folk slowly gather in the less than romantic setting of Stonehenge Visitors Centre car park at around 4am on the morning of the 24th June – just a few days after the revels of the astronomical Solstice. Yet the significance of traditional Midsummer’s Day is humming in the dawn.  The gentle quiet greetings of friends old and new is interrupted by the occasional impossible symphony of a pre-dawn Skylark, while …
