Ritual for Ridgeway Hill | Honouring The Ancient Dead

On the 2nd August a small group of Druid Priests representing HAD met close to the site of the Ridgeway Hill Mass Grave. Led by Christine Cleere (Vixxen), Lead Priest of the Gorsedd of Cor Gawr, Helen Tarrant (Rainbow) and one other walked along the ancient pathway in time with a slow drumbeat. Inspired by Stonehenge – exhibition @ Swindon Museum

3 October 2009 – 27 March 2010
Stonehenge related memorabilia collected and curated by well known archaeologist and broadcaster Julian Richards shows the changing ways people have experienced and been inspired by the iconic monument over the past two centuries.
Inspired by Stonehenge features an eclectic mix of objects, including souvenir china, postcards, guide books, clothing, comics and even music related memorabilia.
The exhibition is on tour from Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum, and has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

On the 24th June 2004, the Gorsedd of Cor Gawr hosted a BBC poetry programme called Rites of Passage, presented by the poet Ian McMillan, the “Bard of Barnsley”.  Here is a recording of that programme, where a real sense of the Gorsedd can be felt. Some beautiful poetry, some wonderful awens, and some lovely memories.

BBC NEWS | England | Wiltshire | Stonehenge centre gets go-ahead.
A £25m plan to revitalise the world-renowned Stonehenge in Wiltshire, including diverting a nearby road, has been announced by the government.
Also included in the plan from the Stonehenge Programme Board are proposals for a new visitor centre at nearby Airman’s Corner.
The news means work can start on design, seeking planning permission and raising cash to deliver the project.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced the project in the Commons.

Stonehenge | Honouring The Ancient Dead
Earlier in the summer Mike Pitts and Julian Richards of the Riverside Project contacted HAD to inform us of a dig into Aubrey Hole VII in which fragmentary human remains excavated between the wars, mostly from the ditch, had been deposited. They wanted to do this to test the bones using techniques not available before their reburial to ascertain a date of death and place in which the deceased had lived before being buried at Stonehenge.
